Places To Visit


The Charente-Maritime region of France has an abundance of places to visit and the property is situated in a location ideally based for exploring the area. A detailed information pack is available at the property but in the meantime here are a few ideas...


Mortagne sur Gironde


The pretty port of Mortagne is within pleasant walking distance (about 20-25 minutes) of the property. The port lies on the Gironde estuary and is backed by high white cliffs. Boat trips along the estuary can be arranged; fishing is also possible. There are several restaurants/cafes/bars at the port.

Royan


Royan is a lively, modern resort, 30 km drive north of Mortagne. It has an excellent beach, good shops & restaurants and bars. It also has a fabulous indoor market (for fresh produce) every morning.

Saint Georges-de-Didonne


St Georges has a magnificent beach (2km long) about 15-20 minutes away. It has a pretty pedestrianised area with shops and restaurants.

Talmont


Talmont is a very popular village about 15 minutes drive from the property. It has many narrow lanes, lined with hollyhocks.

Meschers


Meschers has a pretty port, a town and caves as well as an excellent sandy beach. It is 15 minutes drive from the property.

Saintes


Saintes is the regional capital city, situated on the river Charente; it dates back to Roman times. There is a great variety of shops, supermarkets and restaurants. Boat trips are available. It is also home to one of the oldest amphitheatres in the Roman world.

Cognac


Cognac is a peaceful town best known for its famous produce. Many of the Cognac houses offer visitor tours.

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is about an hour's drive away. It is a fabulous city, renowned for its wine production. There are excellent shops, bars and restaurants as well as attractive public squares and parks. Don't miss it - more detailed information at the property.

St Emilion


A beautiful town and well worth a visit. It is approximately 70 minutes drive from Mortagne, perfect for a day's outing.

La Rochelle


An extremely picturesque resort with lots of quayside seafood restaurants and street entertainment. There is a good selection of shops, excellent beaches and an excellent aquarium.

Ile de Re


Approachable by a bridge from La Rochelle. It's a fantastic place to visit for the day; is very beautiful and a perfect place to hire a bicycle for exploring. Plenty of beaches, restaurants, cafes and shops.
